A wing with its own rhythm

Cork villas often host family for a fortnight in August and quieter weekends the rest of the year. We plan guest rooms so morning tea can happen without crossing the family’s private corridor, and so luggage has a place that is not the bed.

Beds that sleep well after travel

Firm mattresses, readable bedside lamps, and curtains that truly darken a summer dawn over the harbour. Colour stays calm — soft greens, stone, and washed linen — so late ferries do not meet a loud wallpaper.

Washrooms without apology

Guests need hooks for wet towels, a shelf for contact lenses, and flooring that survives sandy feet from Garrettstown. We favour simple tiling, good extraction, and storage that does not require asking the host for a spare razor.

Quiet independence

A kettle tray, glasses, and a small bookshelf of local maps save the host from constant hosting. In West Cork houses we sometimes add a writing table facing the garden for guests who work remotely for a morning.

Children and long stays

When cousins share a room, we plan bunk or twin layouts with under-bed drawers and a single strong light for evening reading. Floors stay soft enough for play yet tough enough for muddy trainers.
